Canadian Spirits: The Essential Cross-Country Guide to Distilleries, Their Spirits, and Where to Imbibe Them (2019)
Over drinks one snowy evening in Toronto, Christine Sismondo and I decided that it would be a good idea to chronicle Canada’s rapidly developing craft distilling industry, and so set the stage for the research and writing of Canadian Spirits. What we didn’t realize at the time was that the industry would grow by almost 50% in the time it took us to write the book, raising the book’s content to profiles of some 160 diverse spirits producers, from the massive Hiram-Walker distillery in Windsor, Ontario, to the pioneering Glenora Inn & Distillery in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, and Vancouver’s tiny Odd Society Spirits. We also tasted and reviewed up to four brands for each distillery, and sampled a whole lot more we didn’t have the space to discuss in the book!
